Monumental Shift

27 Jul

Boy is my back aching… I brought in one new piece of furniture, and ended up moving things around in almost every room of the house! I’ve been looking out for way to add something modern to the house, and I found it in the form of a simple white parson’s desk. In a recent post, I told you how my house was feeling too old and dowdy. Since I hardly ever buy new furniture, I end up with a look that doesn’t represent my desire for clean lines and modern design. I went out on a limb, and bought this parson’s desk at Target, (thank you for the gift card Aimee!) and am very pleased with the changes it brought about.

My original intent was to put the piece in the dining room, and use it as a little bar/serving area. After running through several other scenarios of how/where else it could use it, it eventually ended up as a desk (imagine that) in what was once my office. The room now serves as a TV room as well.  We were sick of the TV being the focal point of the living room, and the first thing you saw upon entering the house. I wasn’t really using the office as it was, so this shift in purpose was a great end result. (I’m sorry, I forgot to take before photos of the office in the rearrangement madness!)

There are still a few little things I’d like to do to tweak the room: reupholster the vanity stool with the coffee sack and paint the legs, hang some family photos or art, make a new cover for the ottoman, and paint over the blue accent wall. Overall though, I really like the vibe of the room. It feels a lot cozier to watch TV now, and I feel like I will use my little desk area more often now!

Once again, you are so great at blending pieces from different time periods into one cohesive, fabulous look!
